Five longstanding singers of Haida songs formed The Haida Gwaii Singers Society in 2000 with the goal of educating Haida people and the general public about, and in the rich musical traditions of the Haida. The Society also seeks to reinvigorate Haida songs and protocol, perpetuating the continued use and existence of traditional and contemporary songs. They are committed to the prudent use of all resources contributed to the Society to safeguard and enrich this unique cultural legacy.
Our goal is to educate Haida people and the general public about the rich musical traditions of the Haida. We seek to reinvigorate Haida songs and protocol, and perpetuate the continued use and existence of traditional and contemporary songs. To that end, we produced two box sets, which are now the top played songs on iTunes lists of Haida Gwaii youth.
